VACANCIES ANNOUNCEMENT 

Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) invites dynamic and suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill the following vacant posts. 

1.0 MUHIMBILI UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH AND ALLIED SCIENCES 

The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) started as the Dar-esSalaam Medical School in 1963. The School transformed into the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Dar-es-Salaam in 1968. The Faculty was merged with the Muhimbili hospital, to create the Muhimbili Medical Centre (MMC) in 1977. After separation with Muhimbili Hospital, the Faculty of Medicine was upgraded in 1991 through Parliament Act. No. 9 of 1991 to become a constituent college of the University of Dar-es-Salaam known as the Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS). 

Over the years MUCHS made significant achievements in terms of increased students enrolment and development of several new academic programmes. The Parliament Act No. 9 of 1991 that established MUCHS was repealed in 2005 through the Universities Act No. 7 of 2005. Subsequently, MUHAS was established in 2007 through Article 1 of the Charter of Incorporation in line with the Universities Act No 7 of 2005. 

1.1. LECTURER (PhD) –   1 POST 

1.1.1 Required Qualification 

Must be a holder of PhD and Master Degree in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology or Human Genetics with at least a GPA of 4.0 out of 5 at Masters level, and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in Bachelor Degree with a minimum score of B+ in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology Subject or other relevant subjects. 

1.1.2 Duties and Responsibilities 

I.To undertake an induction, course in pedagogic skills for those who had none before; 

II.To carry out lectures, conduct tutorials, seminars and practical for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes; III. To mentor junior staffs in relevant fields; 

IV.To participate/contribute in curriculum development; 

V.To participate in developing and managing various university/constituent college activities; 

VI.To undertake research and publish/disseminate results; 

VII.To carry out consultancy and community services; 

VIII.To write teaching manuals and compendia; 

IX.To supervise field practical, undergraduate special projects, Masters and PhD dissertations/theses; 

X.To attend/organize workshops, conferences and symposia; and 

XI.To perform any other duties that may be assigned by the relevant authorities. 

1.1.3 REMUNERATION PUTS 3.3 

1.2. LECTURER (MMed) –   5 POSTS 

1.2.1 Required Qualification 

Anaesthesiology - Must be a holder of a Masters of Medicine Degree in Anaesthesiology (Anaesthesia and Critical Care) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 at Masters level, and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in Doctor of Medicine Degree with a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects. 

Internal Medicine – Must be a holder of a Masters of Medicine Degree in Internal Medicine with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 at Masters level, and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in Doctor of Medicine Degree with a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects. 

Paediatrics and Child Health – Must be a holder of a Masters of Medicine Degree in Paediatrics and Child Health with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 at Masters level, and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in Doctor of Medicine Degree with a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects. 

Radiology and Imaging - Must be a holder of a Masters of Medicine Degree in Radiology and Imaging with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 at Masters level, and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in Doctor of Medicine Degree with a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects. 

1.2.2  Duties and Responsibilities 

i.To undertake an induction, course in pedagogic skills for those who had none before;

1.3.1 Required Qualification 

Must be a holder of PhD and Master Degree in Library and information science/ 

Information Studies/ Information science with at least a GPA of 4.0 out of 5 at Masters level and a Bachelor Degree with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 or its equivalent. 

1.3.2 Duties and Responsibilities 

I. To undertake an induction, course in pedagogic skills for those who had none before; 

II.To carry out lectures, conduct tutorials, seminars and practical for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes; 

III.To mentor junior staffs in relevant fields;

1.4 ASSISTANT LECTURER -  19 POSTS 

1.4.1  Required Qualification 

•Microbiology and Immunology - Must be a holder of Master’s Degree in Microbiology and Immunology with a Minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences Degree (BMLS) with a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects. 

•Biochemistry or Molecular Biology or Human Genetics with at least a GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in a Bachelor Degree with a minimum score of B+ in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology Subject or its equivalent. 

•Biochemistry - Must be a holder of Master’s Degree in Biochemistry or Molecular 

Biology or Human Genetics with at least a GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a minimum 

GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in a Bachelor Degree with a minimum score of B+ in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology Subject or its equivalent. 

•Physiology - Master’s Degree in Physiology or any related Biomedical sciences 

(Nutrition, Immunosciences, Infectious Physiology and others) with a minimum 

GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine, Physiology, Nursing, Dietetics, Human Nutrition, or equivalent qualification, with a minimum GPA of 3.8, both from recognized and reputable Universities with a minimum score of B+ in relevant subjects. 

•Biomedical Engineering Unit - Must be a holder of Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering or Mathematics with at least a GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in a Bachelor Degree in either Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Engineering, MD or Mathematics with a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects. 

•Medicinal Chemistry - Must be a holder of Master’s degree of Pharmacy in the field of Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Quality control and Quality Assurance or Drug Analysis with at least a GPA of 4.0 out of 5 or its equivalent. In addition, one must be a holder of first degree in Pharmacy with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out 5 or its equivalent and has scored a B+ in the relevant subjects. 

•Pharmaceutics and Pharmacy Practice - Must be a holder of Masters of 

Pharmacy Degree in Pharmaceutical management, Industrial Pharmacy, Pharmacoeconomics, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmacovigilance, Regulatory Affairs with at least a GPA of 4 out of 5, must be a holder of first degree in Pharmacy with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out 5 and has scored a B+ in the relevant subjects. 

•Pharmaceutical Microbiology - Must be a holder of Masters of Pharmacy in Microbiology, or Master Degree in Bioinformatics, Biotechnology or related field with a G.P.A of at least 4.0 out of 5, and a Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics with a minimum G. P.A of 3.8 out of 5 and has scored a B+ in the relevant subjects. 

•Pharmacognosy – Must be a holder of Master of Pharmacy in Pharmacognosy or Master of Pharmacy in Phytotherapy or MSc. in Phytochemistry or related field with at least a GPA of 4 out of 5, must be a holder of Bachelor of Pharmacy with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out 5 and has scored a B+ in the relevant subjects.  

•Clinical Nursing - Must be a holder of Masters degree in Nursing Speciality with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in the Bachelor degree in Nursing and Midwifery or its equivalent from a recognized reputable University and has scored a B+ in the relevant subjects. 

•Nursing Management – Must be a holder of Masters degree in Nursing or Midwifery with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in the Bachelor degree in Nursing and Midwifery or its equivalent from a recognized reputable University and has scored a B+ in the relevant subjects. 

•Behavioural Sciences – Must be a holder of Master’s degree in Applied Psychology with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a must have a Bachelor degree in Psychology with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 or its equivalent with a minimum score of B+ in relevant subjects.  

•Community Health – Must be a holder of Master’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition or Epidemiology with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in the first degree of Doctor of Medicine, Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, Nursing or its equivalent with a minimum score of B+ in relevant subjects. 

•Bioethics and Health Professionalism – Must be a holder of Master’s degree in Bioethics with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a Bachelor degree in Philosophy or Law or Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized reputable University with a minimum score of B+ in relevant subjects. 

•Development Studies – Must be a holder of Master’s Degree in one of the following fields Operational Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Policy Analysis and Public Administration with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a 

First degree in one of the following fields Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Environmental Health Sciences, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Mid Wifery, Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Health Laboratory Sciences, Bachelor of Public Administration or its equivalent with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized reputable University with a minimum score of B+ in relevant subjects. 

•Epidemiology and Biostatistics –  Must be a holder of Master’s Degree in one of the following fields Applied Epidemiology, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Biostatistics or Statistics with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a minimum 

GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in the first degree either in Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of 

Dentistry, Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health                      

, Bachelor of Pharmacy, Statistics or other health-related sciences from a recognized reputable University with a minimum score of B+ in relevant subjects. 

•Parasitology and Medical Entomology – Must be a holder of Master’s Degree in one of the following fields Master Degree in Medical Parasitology/Medical Entomology or a Master’s Degree in Tropical Diseases Control with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Science in Zoology with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in the relevant first degree from a recognized reputable University with a minimum score of B+ in relevant subjects. 

1.4.2 Duties & Responsibilities 

I.To undergo an induction course in pedagogic skills for those who had none before; 

II.To carry out lectures, conduct tutorials, seminars and practicals for undergraduate programmes; 

III.To prepare and present case studies; 

IV.To conduct and publish/disseminate research results; 

V.To recognize students having difficulties, intervene and provide help and support; 

VI.To participate in consultancies and community services under supervision; 

VII.To attend workshops, conferences and symposia; and 

VIII.Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the relevant authorities. 

1.4.3 REMUNERATION  PUTS 2.1 

1.5 ASSISTANT RESEARCH FELLOW - 6 POSTS 

1.5.1 Required Qualification 

•Biochemistry - Must be a holder of Master’s Degree in one of the following fields Biochemistry or Molecular Biology with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 

and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in the Doctor of Medicine Degree or Bachelor Degree in Biochemistry degree or other relevant bachelor degrees from a recognized reputable University with a minimum score of B+ in relevant subjects. 

•Microbiology and Immunology – Must be a holder of Master’s Degree in Microbiology and Immunology with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences and Technology or Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences in Microbiology and Immunology or Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences or other relevant degrees from a recognized reputable University with a minimum score of B+ in relevant subjects.

•Medicinal Chemistry – Must be a holder of Master’s Degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Quality control and Quality Assurance or Drug Analysis with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in the first degree in the following fields Pharmacy or Chemistry from a recognized reputable University with a minimum score of B+ in relevant subjects. 

•Biological and Pre Clinical Studies – Must be a holder of Master’s Degree in Pharmacology, Molecular biology and Biotechnology or Microbiology and Immunology with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and must have a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in the relevant first degree from a recognized reputable University with a minimum score of B+ in relevant subjects. 

•Natural Products Development and Formulation – Must be a holder of Masters of Pharmacy or Masters of Science Degree in Medicinal Chemistry, Natural Products Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Quality Control and Quality assurance, Drug Formulation, or Organic synthesis field with at least a GPA of 4 out of 5, must be a holder of Bachelor of Pharmacy or Chemistry with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out 5 and has scored a B+ in the relevant subjects.   

•Medical Botany Plant Breeding and Agronomy - Must be a holder of Master Degree in Molecular Plant systematics and Bioinformatics, Molecular sciences, plant DNA Barcoding or a related discipline with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out 5 and a Bachelor degree in Botanical Sciences, Forestry, Agriculture, Agriconomy or Holti culture with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out 5 from a recognized and reputable University and has scored a B+ in the relevant subjects.

Holder of Master degree in Library or Information Studies or Library and Information Science with at least a GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a Bachelor Degree in Library and Information Science/Information Studies with a Minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in the First Degree from a recognized reputable University and has scored B grade in the relevant subjects.

1.7 TUTORIAL ASSISTANT (5 YRS) -   38 POSTS 

1.7.1 Required Qualification 

•Anaesthesiology – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine or Equivalent degree with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Anatomy – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of 

Dental Surgery (DDS) or any Equivalent degree with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Biochemistry – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Clinical Pharmacology – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Emergency Medicine – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Orthopaedics and Traumatology – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Haematology and Transfusion –  Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Pathology – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Internal Medicine – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Obstetrics and Gynaecology – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Ophthalmology – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a 

minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Otorhinolaryngology – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Paediatrics and Child Health – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Physiology – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Psychiatry and Mental Health – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Radiology and Imaging – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Clinical Oncology – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects. 

•Surgery – Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program.  

•Oral Maxillofacial Surgery - Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Dental 

Surgery (DDS) with at least GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program.  

•Orthodontics, Paedodontics and Community Dentistry - Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) with at least GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Restorative Dentistry- Applicant must be a holder of Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) with at least GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

1.7.2Duties & Responsibilities 

i.This is training post; the staff is required to undergo a Master’s Degree training programme; 

ii.To undergo an induction, course in pedagogic skills for those who had none before; 

iii.To understudy senior members, including attending lectures and seminars, tutorials and practical training; 

iv.To conduct tutorials, seminars and practical; 

v.To assist in research, consultancy and outreach activities; and vi. To perform any other duties that may be assigned by the relevant authorities

1.7.3REMUNERATION  PUTS 1.3 

1.8 TUTORIAL ASSISTANT (4YRS) - 26 POSTS 

1.8.1 Required Qualification 

•Biomedical Engineering Unit - Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Computer Science or Equivalent degree with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable University has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects 

•Physiotherapy Unit -  Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy or Equivalent degree with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects 

•Medicinal Chemistry -  Must be a holder of first degree in Pharmacy with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5, must have scored a B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Pharmaceutics and Pharmacy Practise - Must be a holder of Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree or Pharmaceutical Technology or Doctor of Pharmacy or Equivalent degree with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University and has scored a B+ in the relevant subjects. 

•Pharmaceutical Microbiology - Must be a holder of Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree (Bpharm) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5, must have scored a B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Pharmacognosy - Must be a holder of Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree (Bpharm) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5, must have scored a B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program.  

•Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology - Must be a holder of Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree (Bpharm) with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 and must have scored a B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Clinical Nursing – Must be a holder of Bachelor of Nursing or Midwifery with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 and must have scored a B+ in the relevant subjects.

•Biochemistry - Applicant must be a holder of Bachelor Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Molecular Biology, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Biotechnology and Laboratory Sciences or its equivalent with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 and one must have scored a B+ in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology Subject or its equivalent and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Haematology and Blood Transfusion – Bachelor Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences in Haemotology and Blood transfusion or Equivalent degree with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized reputable Medical University has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed oneyear internship program. 

•Pathology – Bachelor Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences in Histotechnology or Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences in Clinical Chemistry or Equivalent degree with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Microbiology and Immunology – Bachelor Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Equivalent degree with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 from a recognized and reputable Medical University has a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subjects and must have completed one-year internship program. 

•Behavioural Sciences – Must be a holder of Bachelor degree in Psychology or Bachelor degree in Sociology or the related disciplines with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out 5 and must have scored a B+ in the relevant subjects. 

•Bioethics and Health Professionalism – Must be a holder of First Degree in Law or Environmental Sciences with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 and must have scored a B+ in the relevant subjects. 

•Environmental and Occupational Health – Must be a holder of Bachelor of Environmental Health Sciences or its equivalent with a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 and must have scored a B+ in the relevant subjects.
